The Green Man
Since reading 'The Magic Spring', an excellent book about English folklore by Richard Lewis, I have become increasingly interested in these 'traditional' stories. The tale of The Green Man is especially inspirational for an Illustrator-a spirit of the woodland, made of leaves, surrounded by nature. So with that in mind I created this painting...
Running Addiction: Utah Adventure Journal
Latest editorial illustration for Utah Adventure Journal for an article on the difficulty of giving up running for other outdoor activities. I thought a mobius strip was a pretty good representation for any kind of addiction or habit we have trouble breaking. I had a lot of fun on this project and even used it for my last post card campaign. The image actually looks good no matter how its oriented and I liked the idea of sending something like that on a post card since it invites the viewer to turn it around and look at it from all sides.

Gardeners' World Magazine
It isn't really the weather to be out in the garden, but here is an illustration I recently did for Gardeners' World Magazine.
The Long Arm of the Law
For my latest Living France magazine illustration, I was asked to depict
a speeding incident of the columnist, Karen Wheeler. Whilst zooming
around the French countryside she failed to notice the speed limit, but
was certainly noticed by the local gendarme. Luckily for her, she and
her pet dog were sent on their way with nothing more than a slap on the
wrist.
Birdwatching
A pair of collared doves are regular visitors to my back garden and
over the past few weeks I've often seen them huddled up during a heavy
downpour. I felt they deserved to be drawn and here is the artwork.
NZ Road Trip
This image is an attempt to summarise my journey around New Zealand.
My girlfriend and I spent most of the time in the rental car (a Nissan
Sunny which was probably the same age as me), weaving round the rolling
hills and steep mountains. A land that consists of beautiful green
meadows and bubbling mud pools next to imposing volcanoes is a feast for
the senses. Go there!

Summer Afternoon
Looking at the rain pouring down outside my window somewhat
contradicts this blog post, but this is my latest quote-inspired artwork
and focuses on slightly warmer weather. The quote is attributed to
Henry James (1843 - 1916) and I feel it perfectly describes the mood of
summer (when the sky is not filled with clouds). For this piece I aimed
to add more texture than usual and to really capture the temperature
through colour. I'm quite happy with the results and hope to produce
several more of these pieces that use typography as a descriptive form
within the drawing.
Living France Magazine
For the latest issue of Living France Magazine I was asked to illustrate a classroom of reluctant French teens who as part of their agricultural course, have to learn English. The teacher seems to have a tough time trying to keep the students interested, as they would much prefer to be outside, hunting game or growing crops. It reminded me of my youth, studying French GCSE. Two long years of hard graft and all I can remember is how to say I'm going to the swimming pool and I'm from Wales-not the most useful of phrases.
Type illustration
Hello everyone! It is always very interesting and challenging to explore illustration in its great variety of modifications, such as lettering. Working with type is always a great challenge,
but through the hard work, it may show up some beautiful results.

Serco Illustration Competition - 2012
Having been shortlisted for this prize last year, I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will be as lucky with my 2012 entry. The brief was to depict the secret or hidden side of London. As readers of this blog will know, I am rather found of putting on my walking boots and plodding around. There are numerous walking paths around London that bring you close to rare species of plants and animals. With this piece of artwork I have tried to show what is waiting for people in the city, if they are prepared to look for it.
